Federer set for Serena faceoff at Hopman cup

The Hopman Cup might have saved its best for last as excitement builds for the most anticipated tennis match involving a man and woman since the “Battle of the Sexes” in the 1970s.

Roger Federer and Serena Williams, two of the greatest players in history, will face off across the net for the first time on Tuesday when United States go up against defending champions Switzerland in the mixed doubles of the unique two-player, mixed teams event.

This year’s tournament is expected to be Perth’s final Hopman Cup and Tuesday’s group tie is an early sellout on the back of the prospect of seeing two of the all-time greats, with 43 Grand Slam singles titles between them, on the same court.

“It is very exciting for both of us and I hope a lot of tennis fans tune in and watch it,” said Federer after opening his Hopman Cup campaign with an easy singles win on Sunday.

“I admire everything she’s done on and off the court, we are both fierce competitors and we always want to win,” added the 20-time Grand Slam champion of the once-in-a-lifetime match.

“It is going to be one time, probably never again. She is one of the biggest champions in our sport ever, men and women combined, so it is great to be playing against her.”

Pep Guardiola unsure on De Bruyne fitness for Liverpool clash

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says that he does not know whether midfielder Kevin De Bruyne will be fit to face league leaders Liverpool on Thursday in the Premier League.

The Citizens trimmed the Reds' advantage at the top of the table to seven points with a restorative 3-1 win at Southampton on Sunday, with David Silva and Sergio Aguero notching efforts either side of a James Ward-Prowse own-goal.

De Bruyne made his first league start of the season in the Boxing Day loss at Leicester City following a pair of medial knee ligament injuries but he was absent from Guardiola's matchday squad at St Mary's.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss told a post-match news conference the Belgium star's latest setback is not as serious as his previous lay-offs, but he admitted that he is unsure if he will be available to take on Jurgen Klopp's side.

“I don't know how Kevin De Bruyne is,” the Spaniard said.

“I know it's not serious, but I don't know if he can play on Thursday.”

Guardiola conceded it will be "almost impossible" for City to retain their title if they lose to Liverpool, adding: “Of course, I think they'll drop points but not too many.”

Paul Pogba enjoying attacking football under Solskjaer

Paul Pogba says Manchester United players are "enjoying themselves" amid interim coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's perfect start and feels they are "coming back" after their underwhelming beginning to the season.

The Red Devils beat Bournemouth 4-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday to make it three wins from three games, with 12 goals scored since Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho this month. It is their best run of form since April, when they went on a five-game winning streak.

Mourinho's time in charge of United had been plagued by poor performances and sour relationships with players such as Pogba, culminating in a run of one win from five matches in all competitions before he was eventually sacked.

"We needed the win and we had a great performance as well," Pogba told Sky Sports after his side's resounding victory over Eddie Howe's team.

"It is different, we still won games with the old manager but it is just a different style of playing," he added. "We are more offensive and we are creating more chances and that is how we want to play.

"I always want to do more, but I want to play for the team and play simple."

Solskjaer: Romelu Lukaku not a target man

Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted Romelu Lukaku will not play in a "target man" role as long as he is in charge.

Lukaku endured a difficult first half of the season, struggling for form and fitness after claiming he had been negatively impacted by building up too much muscle during the World Cup.

The 25-year-old striker was granted compassionate leave over Christmas and, as such, is further behind than the majority of his team-mates with respect to match sharpness.

"At times he's a good target man, but if you tell him to be a target man he'll never face the goal," Solskjaer told reporters. "Yesterday [Sunday] he was side-on and he's got the attributes of a top, top striker.

"We need to work on his fitness, but I'm delighted. Even though he was half a yard offside [for his goal], it was a good finish."

FC Barcelona confirm interest in Rabiot

Barcelona have denied reaching an agreement to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot and dismissed allegations of impropriety in their transfer dealings.

The La Liga champions have been extensively linked with a move for Rabiot, whose contract at the Parc des Princes expires at the end of this season. However, Liverpool, Arsenal and Juventus are also among the teams credited with an interest in the France international, who can start discussing a summer move with other clubs as of January.

The 23-year-old withdrew from talks over an extension and has not started for the runaway Ligue 1 leaders since December 5, although head coach Thomas Tuchel insists that is a footballing decision.

La Liga champions Barca have released a statement in response, confirming they twice made contact with PSG over Rabiot but denying any further arrangement have been sought or agreed.

"FC Barcelona wish to address stories published in France regarding the signing of players from Paris Saint Germain, and make clear that they have not breached any rule in this regard," the statement read.

"The only contact made was during the month of August and one week ago. In both cases, this contact was made with PSG's sporting management to show FC Barcelona's interest in the player Adrien Rabiot.

"FC Barcelona have always wanted to work with the utmost transparency in their dealings with PSG and with any other club."

Lionel Messi's 11-year headed goal streak ends

For the first time since 2007, Lionel Messi has failed to score a headed goal in a single calendar year.

The Barcelona and Argentina superstar ended the year with 51 goals for club and country, but none of those came from his head. It was the eighth time Messi scored over 50 goals in the same year, but the first time in 11 years that none of them were headed goals.

His 51-goal tally also meant Messi was the only player to finish 2018 with more than 50 goals, two more than long-term rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who netted 49 times for Real Madrid, Juventus and Portugal.

Messi has scored 15 La Liga goals so far across the 2018-19 campaign, with 13 coming from his left foot and two more from his right. Last season, 32 of his 34 La Liga goals were scored with his left foot, with two from his right.

Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba star in easy Manchester United Wn

Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba were the stars of the show once again as they led the way in Manchester United's 4-1 win over Bournemouth, securing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a third successive win since taking charge.

United continued to play with the freedom and zip which has so far characterised the post-Jose Mourinho era, with Pogba and Rashford - who have impressed under caretaker boss Solskjaer - key components as the Red Devils wrapped up 2018 by closing to within three points of fifth-placed Arsenal.

A moment of inspiration from Rashford saw Pogba open the scoring early on for the home side, and the pair added further first-half goals to put United in a commanding position.

Nathan Ake decreased the deficit just before the break, but Romelu Lukaku - back from compassionate leave – marked his return by scoring in the second half, with the only disappointment for the hosts a lat red card for Eric Bailly.

Number 1: Failed And Fulfilled Prophesies Of Rev. Owusu Bempah

Owusu Bempa
At the 31st December 2017 watch night, the founder and leader of the Glorious Word and Power Ministry International, Prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah came out with a list of things that he said will occur in Ghana in the New Year.

The prophesies some of which were very controversial were subject to several interpretations and analysis by Ghanaians.

With barely two days to the end of the year, GhanaNewsPage.Com takes a look at seven of these prophecies from the Man of God and whether they came to pass or not.

1. Ghana will bury a first lady

He prophesied that one of Ghana’s first ladies will be buried in 2018 if Ghanaians don’t pray and intercede for them.

He said “There are some people we call first ladies and these people are the wives of the first gentlemen that is the President of the Nation. If we don’t pray, this year, Ghana will bury a first lady.”

Ghana has four former first ladies, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, Theresa Kufuor, Naadu Mills and Lordina Mahama and a current one, Rebecca Akufo-Addo.

Analysis:

Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings is very active in public life and launched her first book, ‘It takes a woman’ this year.

Not much have been seen of Theresa Kufour, the wife of ex-President Kufour. Many will attest to the fact that she naturally not as active politically as Nana Konadu Rawlings.

Naadu Mills who is the wife of the late President, John Evans Atta Mills is not known to be someone who is always in the news. She normally appears in the news during the anniversary of the death of Prof Mills. And in 2018, she was seen at the event commemorating the passing of the Husband.

Lordina Mahama who is the wife of former President, John Mahama has not been that active in public life. News about her Lordina Foundation is also scanty. Her husband claimed in April that she was the one taking care of him.

Rebecca Akufo-Addo is the current first lady. Auntie Becky’s foundation has been donating several health items to hospitals.

VERDICT:

All the four former first ladies are still living. NO first Lady was BURIED in 2018. Ghanaians instead buried a former Vice President, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur.

This year was a boring because many sex tapes leaked: Counselor Lutterodt

Controversial marriage Counselor, George Lutterodt has said that 2018 was a boring year because there were few sex tapes.

According to him, unlike 2017 when there were loads of sex scandals, 2018 did not live to his expectation if you compare and contrast

He blamed this on the various political scandals that rocked the country and the unwillingness of people to leak their tapes.

He said “The headmaster with the student’s sex tape was one of the greatest that came to hit us, but it didn’t last.”

He noted that the entertainment industry in Ghana is fast growing; something which is good for the image of the country.

“If you take a look at the entertainment industry, in the past years, it’s not going too well, people release sex tapes to spice up the industry, but this year they didn’t have the opportunity to release because the entertainment industry was strong.”

Pastor Walter Masocha steps down after being accused of chopping his married daughter's 'toto'

A UK-based Zimbabwean pastor, Walter Masocha, has stepped down from his position as the leader of Agape For All Nations Church following allegations that he has slept with his married daughter.

The controversial pastor who was once in the news for allegations of sexually molesting his members seems to have taken his act home. According to UK-based writer Jean Gasho, Walter Masocha was exposed after his son-in-law allegedly discovered explicit messages and nude pictures that his wife had been allegedly sending to her own father.

He then took this incriminating evidence to his mother-in-law, Judith. Judith is reported to have confronted the pastor and he allegedly confessed to having had an incestuous relationship with his daughter. Judith is now reported to be divorcing her pastor husband for having sex with his child. In a statement, one of the leaders of the church, Francis Aturia said that Masocha was stepping down due to a “serious moral fall”.

"Sadly, as a result, we would like to inform you all that Dr.Walter Masocha has with immediate effect taken leave of absence in order to deal with a serious moral fall which he has informed his family, the Board of Trustees and the Commissioners. "He is brokenhearted and distraught at the result of the misdemeanours and feels that he is not fit to continue as Spiritual Leader of Agape. "This has come as a significant shock and blow to Dr Judith and the family, and no doubt to many Agape children and other people worldwide. A full investigation will be conducted in due time, and the appropriate disciplinary action shall be taken. "Many on hearing this will be deeply shocked and disturbed by such a disappointing revelation. We implore you to remember most especially, his gracious wife, Dr Judith and consider a Christ-like response to all who are involved at every level of the church family. "We would like to kindly ask you to remember him and his family in your prayers. In view of the fact that he is on leave from his official role, we would like to ask you all at this time to avoid contacting him. We also urge you to avoid contacting Dr Judith and the family in respect of their privacy at this difficult time. At this time, we encourage prayer fuelled with loving action to support one another and keep our focus on our Lord Jesus Christ who by His Holy Spirit is the only one that will enable the current tragedy to be worked out ultimately for His own glory somehow, sometime," the statement as sighted by YEN.com reads.

Meanwhile, another top pastor, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams has come in the news for allegedly sending thugs to the Tema Community 10 branch of his Action Chapel International (ACI) to retrieve a 10% commission from the branch for the use of the ACI name.

The thugs, reportedly led by Bishop James Saah, the administrative bishop of the Action Chapel International (ACI), allegedly stormed the church to halt service and drag out the branch pastor over his refusal to pay.

The incident has led the branch pastor and his leaders to decide to break away from the mother church.

Shatta Wale’s Thanksgiving Service turns chaotic as angry fans throw items

A planned fun-filled reggae dancehall music concert turned chaotic at Mantse Abgona after self-acclaimed dancehall King Shatta Wale failed to turn up on stage early to perform on Saturday night.

The 'I know My Level' hitmaker came on stage after 3:30 am, a point where the fans were tired of standing for such a long period of time.

The delay of the hosting artiste was not the only problem, but the unforgiving technical hitches ignited the anger in the frustrated fans.

Shatta Wale’s 'Thanksgiving Service' fails to live up to expectation

Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale's concert to end the year failed to live up to expectation as the programme was characterised by several hitches and poor planning.

The programme dubbed 'Thanksgiving Service' was organised by the self-acclaimed dancehall king to appreciate God for the year and repay his fans for their loyalty.

Fans who trooped to Mantse Agbona at James Town for the programme had to endure frequent interruptions to the performances due to sound hitches.

The performance of the main artiste of the night Shatta Wale wasn't spared as he had to halt his show for close to 30minutes to get the issues resolved.

The inability of organisers to resolve the issues with the sound eventually got the audience of the 'Thanksgiving Service' agitated and led to some throwing water bottles and sachets, stones and sand at the stage and sound technicians.

As if the issues with the sound weren't enough, the programme also seemed poorly planned with fans who stormed the venue to be thrilled by their favourite artistes leaving disappointed.
