Anokye Supremo’s girlfriend went shopping with donations meant for surgery – Auntie claims

A lady identified as the aunty of the late Highlife singer, Anokye Supremo aka Daddy Lumba Junior has stated that the real Daddy Lumba had nothing to do with Supremo's demise.

According to the aunty, a girlfriend of Supremo who she only identified as Edith was rather the cause of the singer's plight.

Anokye Supremo passed away about three weeks ago in an Indian hospital where he was undergoing a brain tumour surgery.

Since his demise, there has been rumours that Supremo's role model, Daddy Lumba, had a hand in his unfortunate fate, albeit, spiritually.

But in an audio recording circulating on social media, Supremo's auntie disclosed that the said girlfriend who only popped up just after Supremo appeared in the media to beg for funds to undergo surgery spent much of the money people donated to the singer.

The auntie added that Edith attached herself to Supremo so much and he trusted her to the extent that he only listened to what the girlfriend said.

Edith then took advantage of this closeness to get access to Supremo's bank codes and whenever people donated money, the girl was spending it on useless ventures.

She was so heartless that she could use some of the money meant for the surgery to go shopping and also spend some to make o over their room while Supremo suffered.

The situation was so bad that the lady stopped Supremo from picking the calls of the auntie and even caused a rift between the singer and his siblings before he was eventually flown to India where his operated got complicated and he died in the process.

Kwadee advises Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy to switch to Highlife

Within a blink, Dancehall music genre has taken over Ghana music industry kind courtesy Shatta Wale. As a result, most up and coming rappers who should have been doing Highlife have all switched to join the trend – Dancehall.

This music trend in Ghana beats the imagination of seasoned rapper Okomfour Kwadee as he has condemned those who stand for it especially Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy – remember they’re the most popular artists championing Dancehall in Ghana at the moment.

“Are we proud as Ghanaians to be copying a genre like Dancehall music which has no message? We have so many issues in the country we can address with our music but a genre like Dancehall will never tackle such issues,” Okomfour Kwadee told Showbiz in a recent interview.

More importantly, Okomfour Kwadee noted that the foreign influence in our music is becoming too much and it is high time Ghanaian musicians considered going back to our roots to reinvent Highlife music genre.

“Let’s get the African rhythm in our songs. Let’s tell our stories in our music as I did with my songs. We have great talents in Ghana but it’s sad we are copying from the foreign world,” Okomfour Kwadee advised.

I am more popular than Stonebwoy, Sarkodie – Kwadee

Bragging is part of the rap game so it is not surprising when rappers do that but the latest claim by Hiplife artiste, Okomfo Kwadee might be hotly contested. According to the Ye Ko Mmaa P3 artiste, he is more popular than Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and Sarkodie.

In an interview with Showbiz last Wednesday, February 20, Kwadee said Sarkodie, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, who are currently the biggest artistes in Ghana with several international awards to their name, cannot be compared to him when it comes to popularity.

“None of the artistes I mentioned above have gotten to where I am. I was a nominee for Channel O Awards (2003) and KORA Music Awards (2005) but I didn’t even go for the events.

"Everyone in Ghana knows Kwadee because of the music I did. I cut across both the old and the new, chiefs and prominent people listen to my songs.

“Sarkodie winning a BET does not mean he is popular than me. When we do polls between myself and the A-list artistes we have now I still stand tall,” he said.

Away from his popularity claim, Kwadee said although Dancehall music has gained attention in Ghana, the genre has no message.

“Are we proud as Ghanaians to be copying a genre like Dancehall music which has no message? We have so many issues in the country we can address with our music but a genre like Dancehall will never tackle such issues,” he told Showbiz.

Kwadee said the foreign influence in our music is becoming too much and it is time to go back to our roots.

“Let’s get the African rhythm in our songs. Let’s tell our stories in our music as I did with my songs. We have great talents in Ghana but it’s sad we are copying from the foreign world," he said.

Asked to name his five top rappers, Kwadee said he does not have any at the moment because he has been absent from the music scene for a while.

Known for songs like Ofie Nipa, Yeko Mmaa Pe, Abrantie, Wo Taataa Me, Obiara Ba Nnye, Ahwedee Abena, Meba Mo Nkyen, Obaa No, Boys Boys and Woo Kye, Kwadee is making a return to the music scene again with two new songs, Gye W’ani and Fa Wo Nsa Gu Wo Ti.

Few Ghana artists are purely doing music for survival; most are into Sakawa – Edem reveals

The frequently asked questions (FAQ) is “does doing music in Ghana pays”? The answer is obviously “YES” but because structures and systems in Ghana not excluding royalties mismanagement by GHAMRO make the above answer tentative.

So, to live extremely good in Ghana as an artist, one must look out for ways and means to double the figures as according to rapper Edem, the music income in Ghana isn’t encouraging – It’s largely limited to shows.

But in trying to double the figures as an artist, most of them especially the males deviate from the norm – they go the illegal way not excluding internet fraud otherwise known as “Sakawa”. Speaking to DJ Reuben on Luv FM’s Drive Time segment on yesterday, February 22, 2019, Edem made it emphatic that most artists are into “Sakawa” for financial support.

Although Edem failed to mention names of such artists and that makes his assertion prone to rejection. Nonetheless, Ghana’s very own Shatta Wale recently took to social media specifically Twitter that when the going gets tough; Sakawa will be his next move.

So logically, there’s an iota of truth in what Edem said in the studios of Luv 99.5 FM in the Garden City or better still Kumasi.
